Sasoriza lugged her rather heavy suitcase up the last of the stairs feeling as if her arms were about to fall off rather soon. She knew it was the lazy option, but an elevator would have made life so much easier!

Carrying on she found the room she had been directed to, well it was easy to see for it had Teachers dorm written on the door. Still knowing her she would have walked right past it and spent hours wondering which turning she'd gone wrong at. With a wry shake of her head she walked on pulling her wheely suitcase behind her and through the door.

It was certainly very elegant and no doubt slightly better furnished than the students quarters. With a sigh Sasoriza chose one of the four-poster beds, each had a different colour furnishings and duvet. She chose the turquoise bed with the white French wardrobe, bed side table and bureau. Shoving her suitcase under the bed she fell with a content sigh on to the extremely comfortable bed, her hands running up and down the silk bedspread liking the touch.

Bliss. She could tell she was going to like it here.

"Dormitory", in Vera's opinion, was a synonym for "torture chamber". There would be bedbugs and other unpleasant individuals. The room would be less clean than even the latrines. And of course, with her luck, she would get stuck near an insane maniac.

Dragging her suitcase after her, she entered the dormitory. Such a pleasant surprise; it was not as filthy as she'd expected it to be. Studying the beds, she chose the one that was closest to the door, and, sitting down on it, began unpacking.

She had very few clothing; most of the items in her suitcase were books. Her expression softened as she gazed down at her beloved books, some of which had traveled with her for years. She placed them on the shelf. Running her finger down the spines of the books reverently, she smiled dreamily.

Each one of those books meant something to her. Most were books on the elements: long winded books of theory, books on dominion over air and fire, and less-perused books on water and earth. Others were guilty pleasures, books she still looked at from time to time, though they were fiction and of very little use to her. And of course, nearly unnoticeable among the thicker tomes, was her own journal, a collection of her thoughts on elements.

Preoccupied in her thoughts, she didn't notice the presence of the other teacher.

''I'm guessing by a glance at your suitcase that you like books.'' Sasoriza smiled slightly at the new teacher who she didn't yet know. ''Welcome to the teachers dorms, I'm Sasoriza the healing teacher. May I ask who you are?''

Sasoriza went a sat on the unoccupied bed nearest to the new teacher so that it would be easier to talk to her.

She herself had been here a while and had already explored the room, found the en suite and unpacked everything from her suitcase. Oh and put everything in colour and type order into her wardrobe...not that that was something she usually did, she just had time on her hands.

Vera turned to face the woman, her reverie broken. At the woman's first words, she smiled. "I've quite the collection of books here." she said proudly. "Do you have any idea just how long it takes to collect most of Paracelsus's works in English?"

"Vera, Elemental Studies," she introduced herself, her tone unusually warm. She'd also just given Sasoriza permission to call her by her nickname, something that she hadn't done in a long time. Obviously, the way to earn her goodwill was to mention books.

Sasoriza smiled, obviously she had said something right...for once! ''Well nice to meet you Vera, and I hope you have success with your class.'' Secretly to herself she wished that also she herself had a good class and the students liked her, but she wasn't going to say out loud to anyone how nervous she actually was, she gave the impression of being confeident and liked to fool herself into thinking that she was always confeident. But she wasn't. ''I'm guessing the name you gave me is a shortened version of your full name, unfortunately i have no 'nickname' as to say...my name is utterly horrible to remember!'' She laughed, for she well knew people had to ask her over and over what her name was, for it was so unique that they had trouble remembering it.

''Well I can't say I do know how long it takes...but I'm pretty sure you know. Sounds an interesting set of books though, what is their subject?'' She knew that she probably should know, but she wasn't a book person, and hadn't ever had room for books in her life. But know she was genuinely intrigued and interested.

Intrigued and interested, two words that were coming up a lot in her thoughts these past few days at the academy.

"I doubt I will," Vera said pessimistically. She remembered being a student; unless the youths of this generation were far different from those of hers, then teaching them would be a struggle. "But then, they probably won't have a good time with me, either, so fair's fair."

She had no intention of making the class easy. They were here to learn, and she was going to hammer the information into their heads no matter what it took.

"Mainly alchemy, although there's a great deal of importance regarding elementals too, which is why I'm interested." she shrugged. "His style is bombastic and near unreadable, but he was the first to coin the terms for the separate elementals." She picked out a book, warming to her subject. "Here, you might like this. Paracelsus wrote a great deal on healing. He refuted some classical misconception about healing, or something like that."

She'd collected his healing books mainly because they'd been easy to get. They'd been great for providing insight into Paracelsus as a person. She wasn't sure she liked him as a person, but he had been a genius and an innovator. These, as far as she was concerned, excused his personality flaws.

Sasoriza took the book and smiled, perphaps she would for once enjoy a book. Flipping it over in her hand she gently touched the cover. ''Thank you Vera, I'm honoured. He sounds a very interesting man...who knows I may learn a lot from him.''

She listened intently as she talked about the students and class. ''Well I'm most certain they'll learn a lot from you...and I think there are a majority of students here that will be very keen to learn.'' She let her smile drop slightly and hoped her words were true.

It sounded as if Vera looked up to this man Paracelsus a lot. She had never had a role-model or someone she thought was a hero, not that she could remember. But she did respect people.

"As someone who once went to a school similar to this one, I doubt it." Vera said. "It took me almost a year to figure out that the universe does not center around me and my existential angst." To be honest, she wasn't quite sure she'd gotten over her egocentrism yet.

She shrugged. "Speaking from experience, the ones who want to learn are sometimes the worst. Always showing up the rest of the class, always skipping ahead, never paying attention. Just because they know how to use their powers instinctively." She imbued the word "instinctively" with the contempt she felt it deserved.

It was one thing to guide the elements, fully knowing the consequences that could come of such an action, and quite another to do so instinctively on a whim.

''I was taught the hard way not to use my power on whim and to show off about 4 years ago. It was not an experience I'd like to relive.'' She remember the only time her healing had been overcome, but after that she had trained hard and her healing now was almost perfect.

''Well I myself would rather have a class full of people who wished to learn and had some natural power, than a class of people I had to threaten to work and have no joy from at all. But that's personal opinion at its finest.''

She got off the bed and went to put the book on her bedside table before returning. It would be read in detail that night and every night until she finished it.
